Why I love MasterCard

Ok, I'm not paid by Master Card but I really feel they have done a great job with the ABT pilot.

What is ABT?

Here's in the nutshell: ABT is where you use Master Card as travel card in Singapore.

What's the benefit?

Here it is, straight from the website:

Number 2 is the best thing since grilled cheese on french toast. And I can add number 4. If you lost you card, no prepaid balance is lost. You can simply cancel you card and call your bank for a replacement card. Awww, yissss. Shame on you, the guy who pick up my named flash pay and did not bother to return it but instead using it all up, yeah, I know where you're going.

Here's what happened, in ye olde days, I always top up the card for the whole month. (usually $80 but I normally spend around $60/month) One sunny day that I somehow managed to drop my beloved card, which also my ATM card, that has name and bank on it... and it's gone. No one's returning it. And I can see that it was used for MRT until the balance was out. (there's a way to see it, though)

Why does it go to rantings? cause ABT would avoid you from such situation. And best thing is, the ride charges is charged to my card every week and the credit card bill came to me every month. So I'm paying by credit instead of paying in advanced. Another great things? No additional cost such as automatic top up or top up from 7-11.

If you have Master Card, register it for ABT and enjoy the added convenience.

But here's the downside:
1. The charges is computed on daily basis. You can't see how much you've been charged by the bus/MRT on the spot. In fact you can only see the transaction the next day.
2. Search term is limited to only 7 days at a time.
3. It's for adult fare. So for those using senior card or student card, it's not applicable.
4. Sometime they have downtime. There are cases where my newly registered card is no accepted in certain bus. Therefore, you still need to have a spare ready for this case.

The extra upside?
1. You got (very small amount of) points from your credit card. (not that useful as you can now top up for transport using credit card.
2. Currently Master Card have a lucky draw for World Cup. (Which I don't really care but I know some of you do)

I also have another reason to love Master Card, but that's for another time.

Ok lah, see you again
